5 Healthy Habits Every Busy Woman and New Mama Should Adopt

Being a multi-passionate woman is something I love about myself. I also aspire to have a family in the future and I want to continue living an active and healthy lifestyle so that I can model for my future kids that their mom can set and achieve big goals!

For my friends who are currently expecting or are a new mama, I know this is an incredible time in your life, but it can also be overwhelming at times as you adjust to your new role and take care of your little one. Prioritizing your health and wellness is essential during this time so that you can be the best version of yourself for your family. Adopting healthy habits can make a significant difference in how you feel physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Here are five healthy habits that every busy woman should consider incorporating into her routine:

1.     Prioritize Self-Care: As a new mom or just a multi-passionate woman, it's easy to put your needs last on the list. However, it's crucial to prioritize self-care so that you can recharge and be there for those you love. Take some time for yourself each day, whether it's a quiet cup of tea, a quick workout, or a relaxing bath. Self-care looks different for everyone, so find what works best for you and make it a priority.

2.     Eat Nutrient-Dense Foods: It is essential to nourish yourself with nutrient-dense foods during all life stages, especially if you are pregnant, have recently given birth to a baby, or are breastfeeding. Focus on incorporating plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats into your diet. These foods will provide you with the energy and nutrients you need to take care of your yourself and your family.

3.     Stay Hydrated: Drinking an adequate amount of water is crucial for overall health, especially for new moms who may be breastfeeding. Dehydration can lead to fatigue, headaches, and a drop in milk supply. Keep a water bottle handy throughout the day, and aim to drink at least 8-10 cups of water daily. If you struggle to remember to stay hydrated, try setting reminders on your phone or using a water-tracking app.

4.     Get Sufficient Sleep: Sleep deprivation is a common challenge for busy women, especially for new moms, but getting enough rest is essential for your physical and mental well-being. Try to nap when your baby naps or take short breaks between tasks, accept help from your partner or family members and create a relaxing bedtime routine to signal to your body that it's time to wind down. If you're having trouble sleeping, speak to your healthcare provider for guidance.

5.     Stay Active: Exercise may be the last thing on your mind as a busy woman or new mom, but staying active can boost your mood, increase your energy levels, and help you recover from childbirth. Start slowly with gentle activities like walking/light jogging, yoga, or postnatal exercise classes, and gradually increase the intensity as you feel ready. Remember to listen to your body and give yourself grace as you navigate this chapter in your life.

Incorporating these healthy habits into your routine can help you feel more balanced, energized, and resilient as you navigate the joys and challenges of this stage of your life. Remember that taking care of yourself is not selfish – it's necessary for you to be the best you can be for those you love.
